Whats being told now is just prelimanary stuff my guess is, and yes not everyone will like it. Just deal with it, the games not coming out for over 2 years and things are bound to change. Instead of whinning and crying now, join the beta when sign ups occur and vioce your rants their where it will actually matter

Anet has made a fantastic game called guild wars, and I'd expect nothing less of them for Guild Wars 2.
You obviously haven't read page 1.

Seeing as WoW is the titan of the MMORG games, isn't it logical for all the others to be based on it? For the 100000th time, GW IS NOT LIKE THE OTHERS! And it's sure sad that the people who appreciate that are in a minority.

Honestly, character transfer from GW1 to its sequel will probably be impossible. How do you know the classes will exist as we currently know them? How do you know appearances, armor, xp, everything will work the same way as we currently know them to work?

Odds are: they won't be the same. Character transfer is incredibly unfeasible.
Well, in the first place, the problem is not that character transfer to Guild Wars 2 is impossible/unfeasible, that's just the symptom. As a player I'm not suggesting that it's an easy transfer, I'm suggesting that cancelling further campaigns and creating a sequel instead is the problem. The problem of transferring characters was only created when the decision was made to release GW2.

Additionally, I'd be the first one to say, (now that they've chosen to go the route of GW2), that a compromise could be made. Adjust the way experience transfers. Let me have an armor rack in my new guild hall to display my old armor sets to friends, even tho I can't wear them. Make an approximation of appearance, it doesn't have to be exact. I'm looking for attempted compromise, and I certainly understand that things would be different.

However, there's a huge world of players out there that would love to take the time out of their busy lives to get into the hobby. Guild Wars 1 is perfect because you can go to the limit of 20 and such. However, GW2? that's just terrible and the sales are just gonna bomb. It really is a WoW-clone. Most of the players in this thread have spoken. They left WOW because of the life-less grinding. So if Anet wants to sell out for the sake of being like Wow, then players will just feel, why get the generic when you can get the original WOW.

Gaile mentions GW2 would be an open door for new players? Well most new players would get GW 1 first before even considering the sequal and once they realize GW 2 is in no real benefit to GW 1 (Hall Monument, w/e? Oh please, lame.), they'll just say, "eh After I'm done with GW 1, I think , "I think I'll just go back to remembering the video game world isn't a real one and just move on."
I play Everquest, WOW and Guild Wars. I actually enjoy WOW better, but to get GW 2 would be nothing but a WOW knockoff. WOW > GW! Atleast I know not to waste my money.

The Great Destroyer is a Dwarf as far as I can tell, they mention him during a quest in Sorrows Furnace and he sounded like some ancient evil Dwarf.

It was that quest where you have to stop that guy from learing The Great Destroyers name from some book.... gah I cant remember it fully.

I'd actually gone to bed when an idea occured to me for moving stuff forward that actually fits in perfectly with the Guild Wars universe.

One is that you get to the remains of a place like ToA, Zin Ku Corridor or the Chantry of Secrets. In there you kneel before the statues and the Avatars come to life. They give you a message like "at least the time has come" and give you the quest string that will unlock your 'rite of passage' and allow you to claim your ancestor's mantel. You complete the quests and your ancestor (previous character) appears and gives you your equipment. It might even take place in UW or FoW or some other place.

The other idea would actually require the Elonian Desert. You go around completing the Ascension quests and you finally get to Augury Rock and you go to face the final test. Only in this case it isn't your doppleganger you fight but your ancestor. In addition to Ascending you also get to claim their armour and weapons.

Not really necessary, but I think it would add a cool roleplaying twist to the idea.

wow itself is a clone of Korean grindfesters (Lineage Anyone?), only thing blizzard did is insert more crap ( things like fishing, all the different trades, het mounts, whatever) to cover it up, but that in fact its noting more and nothing less.

And i know since i was stupid enough to grind my way to lvl 60 in wow. What a waste of time that was.

Now back On-Topic.
Wil GW2 be a WoW clone. Could be spot on, could be totally off. One point is for sure, they want to implement something that looks like wow (massive freedom, more "various actitivies" other than fighting , and a non-instanced world) BUT they want to implement that with the GW style of play. Meaning u'll need some intelligence to play the game and hacking and slashing wont get u far, and they want a story.

Now the combination of those could be a spectacular game blowing away all compettitors or it could be the worst mistake they ever made.

We cant really say if it'll work. We can hope...

It's a risk there taking lets hope it will be a well considerd one for ANET's sake.

Sorry, but wah wah wah goo goo goo. People are STILL judging GW2 without ever trying the beta, the free trial disk or anything. Yes, I know it isn't out yet so how can you complain about something you've never seen? We've got information tidbits, that's all. Wait until screens, videos and the beta come out.

Also, while you're waiting, prepare for your new names for your new characters. I like that you cannot transfer your characters over. New game, new "world", 100's of years in the future! Give it a shot before bashing it. Try to act semi-civil about this. All i've heard is people whining and crying. You won't know exactly what it's like until you've sat in front of your computer, installed the beta/trial and created the first character.

The only thing that I am concerned about is: will this mean that GW will be shut down, or will both be playable?

Both should be playable, but that also depends on how many people will stay with GW1. In the end it's what the mass goes with, however scrublike it is...

I don't mind characters not transferring over at all. Only thing I want to be able to transfer is everything in my storage since ancestors wouldn't be around after 100+ years but their storage should be accessible even in the future. That'll be the factor that I'll more than likely weigh my buying decision of the game heavily on.

That's really cool man, if ANet wanted to get lazy though they could just dump a big treasure chest there :P Works for me.

I'd still feel weird about not playing my original war or monk =[ Kind of like how I can never GvG with a pvp only warrior and monk D: Ohhhhh well

So basically all you want is to start a BRAND SPANKIN NEW game with 1000k so you can buy everything and anything straight off the bat?

Why should you get something in GW2 if you didn't achieve it in GW2?

Let's wait for screenshots, beta testing and trials before judging the game completely brand spankin' new. I'm so far convinced it's merely chapter 4/5 but renamed to GW2 for marketting reasons, easier to start new then trying to link/port chars while adding new ones, etc... Heck, they could've easily sold chapter 3 as GW2 if they wanted to since the addition of heroes could've justified it as new GW. Once we get more info on it then we'll see if it really is a whole new GW.

Did you even read ANYTHING in this thread? GW2 is COMPLETELY different. Why do you think there's a big uproar from some people about it? Merely chapter 5? Riiiiight.
